GENERAL CRIMINAL COURT INFORMATION
Rockland County is the southernmost county on the west side of the Hudson River in the State of New York. The county’s population is 311,687+, making it the third-most densely populated county outside New York City within New York State. The County Seat is New City. Rockland County borders the Boroughs about 9 miles northwest of NYC at their closest points and is accessible via the New York State Thruway (and, a lot of traffic tickets). The Rockland County Court has authority to hear criminal matters involving felony (offenses punishable by more than one year in prison) criminal charges arising in the County of Rockland. Such cases are on the Court’s morning calendars Monday through Friday as directed by the Court. The Rockland County Court has trial jurisdiction over all cases if the jail term that can be imposed exceeds one year. The office of the Rockland County District Attorney prosecutes all such criminal cases.
The Rockland County Court does not hear traffic ticket cases.
